The Friends of the Madison Public Library Bookstore is always looking for volunteers.
Bookstore volunteers help shelve books, maintain displays, accept donations and Friends memberships, assist patrons, and run the cash register. We ask that volunteers commit to one shift a week – or more, typically from one to three hours. The Friends Bookstore is open Monday through Saturday and Sunday during the library’s regular business hours. (If the Public Library is open, we would like the store to be open, too, and we need many volunteers to make that happen.)
Volunteers will also have the opportunity to assist with occasional Friends’ book sales (generally three per year, winter, spring, and fall) with setup, takedown, and day-of assistance.
Other Volunteer Opportunities:
Can’t commit to a weekly shift? Interested in other opportunities? The Friends Board welcomes help from members for a number of occasional tasks – sorting donated materials, working at book sales, preparing mailings, helping with fundraising, and providing support for special events, such as the annual meeting or author programs – to even larger ones, like serving on the Board of Directors.
There are no set requirements for volunteers – no library degree is required, no time commitment is final, no particular training, education, or experience is required. Like you and your schedule, we’re flexible. A love of books and libraries, and a desire to help your community is all that is needed.
