This is a great time to be involved as a library Friend in Madison! A new state-of-the-art facility is being created on the site of the old downtown library with the grand opening scheduled for fall 2013. The ten-member Friends Board has provided both direct and indirect support to the planning and fund-raising efforts. As a member of the Board of Directors you may have an opportunity to serve on Friends and Foundation committees, focused on promoting both good library services for the whole community, and on ensuring that the “new” downtown library serves as the flagship for the system for many years to come.
Board members also have opportunity to help coordinate one of the existing activities of the Friends organization (the bookstore, three annual book sales, book sorting, mailings, publicity, newsletter) or develop new projects. Service opportunities include advocacy, fund-raising, and helping with library programs or events such as the Book Club Cafe. Board members serve for one-year terms that are renewable annually in May.
