You are Cordially Invited to the Friends of the Madison Public Library Annual Meeting and Volunteer Recognition Program
Tuesday, May 15
United Way – 2059 Atwood Avenue
The evening agenda:
5:30 – Hospitality and Reception (open to registered guests)
6:00 – Dinner (open to registered guests)
7:00 – FMPL Annual Meeting (open to the public)
Recognition of Friends and Library Volunteers (open to the public)
7:30 –Program: Emily Auerbach – “The Odyssey Project: the power of books to change lives.”
This year the FMPL annual meeting will take place at the Anderson United Way Center because, as you know, the downtown library where we usually meet is closed for remodeling. Construction is under way, and we are looking forward to moving back in sometime in 2013.
It has become a tradition at the FMPL annual meeting to honor not only the volunteers who have worked at our book store, book sales, mailings, and programs, but also branch Friends volunteers and those who volunteer for the library staff. The reception and dinner are provided free of charge to all volunteers that register using the form on the other side of this invitation. Other Friends members, family members, neighbors, library staff members, and members of the public are also welcome to register and attend.
Our speaker for the evening will be Emily Auerbach, award-winning English Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She serves as Project Director of the UW Odyssey Project, a free, life-changing college humanities course for low-income adults. She is also co-host of University of the Air, a one-hour program broadcast statewide on Wisconsin Public Radio on Sundays from 4-5 PM featuring interviews with faculty in a variety of disciplines, and Project Director of the “Courage to Write” series of radio documentaries and written guides on women writers.
Please join with your Friends on this special evening to share stories and good food, to recognize the valuable contribution of volunteers, and to learn about the successes of the Odyssey Project.
Please complete the registration form on the form attached to this post and return it to: Friends of the Madison Public Library, 201 West Mifflin Street, Madison, WI 53703
