The clock is ticking as we count down to the closing of the “old” library and a move of the central library to temporary quarters. The closing of the library, the possibiilty that our Friends group may have to pay rent to store books in order to operate while the library is closed, and the likelihood that materials weeded from the library collection and not sold by the Friends will end up in the recycling bin create an opportunity for a great big book sale this spring. Because the library will be housed in smaller quarters until the remodeled facility is open, many, many materials currently kept in air conditioned comfort in the lower stacks, including old and rare materials, are being weeded from the collection and will be offered for sale by the Friends. These materials, specially priced to reflect condition and value, will be available along with a variety of fiction and non-fiction, books for children and teens, and materials for many other interests, priced at just $1.00 or $0.50. The sale starts on Thursday, April 28 with noon to 6 hours for Friends members only. The public sale runs from 6-8 Thursday, 9-6 on Friday the 29th, and 9-2 on Saturday, April 30, with most materials priced at just $3 per bag for the last two hours. The sale will take place on the second floor of the central library at 201 West Mifflin Street, and will also include most materials in the Friends Book Store. This sale will feature many unique items, as well as provide a great opportunity to enhance your own library with no postage costs, and at bargain prices, so plan to come, and bring your friends.
